About Rust
Rust - Mad Max Meets Minecraft on PC
A Survival Game That Has You Making Just as Many Enemies as Friends
The Ultimate Survival Game
Released in 2018, the MMO survival game continues to grow in popularity. Rust offers a unique take on the survival genre that continues to attract new players and keeps the old ones coming back for more. Developed by Facepunch Studios, Rust is available to play on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
What Exactly Is Rust?
Rust begins with the player waking up naked and alone in the wild with nothing but a torch and a rock. The main goal is to scavenge and collect as much loot as possible to survive not only the hostile environments but also other hostile players.
You can build your fort, and watch as raiders inevitably destroy it, or you can destroy someone else's fort that they worked hours on perfecting. At its core, Rust is a survival MMO that will leave you either pulling your hair out or basking in glory as one of Rust's greatest survivors.
Other players aren't the only enemies in the game. The terrain and environment can also kill you if you aren't careful. You'll be forced to avoid radiated areas if you want to survive in Rust.
You'll start with nothing - you quite literally wake up naked and alone. You will be able to craft a hand weapon early on. There are guns in the game, but they are hard to find. You likely won't be packing firepower until you are nearing the end of the game.
Rust pulls from many of the greatest multiplayer and survival games to create the ultimate experience. Nothing is new in Rust; however, everything is done at an acceptable level.

Basic Visuals and Sounds
The graphics in Rust are just about what you'd expect from a game so massive. There is no doubt that Rust is a good-looking game; however, it is missing some features that make modern games beautiful. Due to the nature of the game, this isn't that big of a deal. Rust was never meant to be a masterpiece in the graphics department.
The audio in Rust is what is expected in a game like this. Cars sound like cars; guns sound like guns. Nothing is overdone, but nothing is inherently wrong either.
It will be interesting to compare the PC version of the game to the console version when it's released in late 2021.

Kill or Be Killed
There is plenty to do in Rust. Players can explore the open world and play as they see fit. The main goal is to collect resources. Scavenging for scrap is needed to build your base, build weapons, and maintain repairs.
Driving, whether you are in a car or a boat, is also a main aspect of Rust. You'll be spending lots of time behind the wheel traveling from area to area looting and shooting.
Rust takes the best aspects from other survival games such as Minecraft and The Forest and makes them better. You'll chop down trees and smash up rocks to secure your base.
Building your base is the first thing you'll want to do in Rust. If you don't secure your base and store your loot another player will inevitably kill you and take everything you've worked so hard for.
The outpost is a safe area where you can handle your trading and inventory management. Other players can't kill you there.
Rust is filled with hostile players; however, there are plenty of friendlies as well. You will likely come across many players who are willing to give you free items and help you out along the way.

The Verdict
Rust is a unique survival experience that very few games are ambitious enough to try to tackle. Rust is the type of game that explains very little and expects you to do a lot. You'll likely be confused about what to do when you first enter the world. However, this is remedied by the community of the game. It won't take long for you to find friends or even join a clan that will help you on your journey.

TL;DR
Rust is an open-world social survival game where you can control your objectives and play exactly how you want to play.
