Developed by Emil "Ace" Macko, Five Nights at Candy's is an indie horror video game, available for the Windows operating system. A fan-made sequel to the smash hit Five Nights at Freddy's video game franchise, this new Five Nights game takes place in a rival restaurant to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. Filled to the brim with even more animatronic monsters, it's up to the player to survive and unravel the mystery. What's really happening in these businesses? Who is the Purple Guy? And why does the player keep showing up for such a small paycheck?
A sequel to the original Five Nights at Freddy's game, Five Nights at Candy's delivers a new restaurant full of new robotic horrors. As with any good sequel, FNAC deepens the series lore by showing that the terror of Freddy Fazbear is even further reaching than just one building.
Players control a night guard at Candy's Burgers and Fries, a rival fast food restaurant to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. Just like their rival, Candy's features a group of animatronic mascot characters. At night, these robots move on their own, seeking out humans to kill in the restaurant. The player must survive for five nights as the animatronic mascot characters try to kill him. In between each night, a certain familiar face appears to give insight into what's really happening behind the scenes. In franchise tradition, though, it's not exactly easy to understand.
Five Nights at Candy's Features
The basic formula first introduced in Five Nights at Freddy's returns here. Players use cameras around the map to monitor the locations of different animatronics, shut doors when they get too close, and try to keep from running out of power and getting a game over.
In addition to all the new robots, the game introduces a few new features to the core gameplay mechanics. One such feature is night vision, letting the player see animatronics in dark areas. It also borrows several elements from Five Nights at Freddy's 2, such as the Puppet and the between-night sequences that expand the plot. Each night in the game increases in difficulty. Power drains quicker during each level and more and more enemies appear to try and attack the player. Players will have to understand each animatronic's patterns and strategies to overcome the levels while managing their power level.
In Conclusion
While FNAC has a lot of charm, especially in the inventive new character designs, it unfortunately never escapes its roots. This video game is a fan game in every sense. This fact shows in how it introduces little to change the formula from its inspiration. While there's plenty of passion, hardcore FNAF fans would be better off just playing one of the sequels.
