Beacon

Developed by Monothetic LLC, Beacon is an indie action video game available for Microsoft Windows operating systems. This roguelike sci-fi action game takes place on a planet called Kovus-18. Play as Freja Akiyama, a fierce space pirate who is stranded on Kovus-18. Fight through many different monsters while locating the distress beacon for Freja's ship. Hunt down weapons and armor in unique environments, additionally collecting DNA from each enemy killed. Lots of aliens prove tough, though, and death is inevitable.

However, death is just the beginning in Beacon. Freja can use the DNA from monsters by mixing it into her own when respawning after each death. Players alter not only Freja's passive attributes but her physical look as well. Enjoy beautiful, randomly-generated worlds as Freja continues her search of Kovus-18. Hunt tons of kinds of loot through exploring unique environments, many with their own weather systems! There are endless combinations to choose from.

Beacon Features

While this video game is in early access, there are already tons of great features available. DNA splicing is a critical part of Beacon. Freja meets many monsters during her exploration. They all have different but interesting perks. There are enemies with skin like steel. Pluck the luminous glow off of swampy insects. Players then mix and match tons of these options by collecting their DNA. Then, apply these to Freja every time she dies. Create truly unique combinations in order to take on tough enemies. In fact, there are over 35 different monsters with at least 8 champion types! There are even 3 bosses that await the most challenge-seeking players.

No game is complete without an interesting world, and Beacon has 5 wildly different zones. There is a lush forest as well as the cryptic "Prism Vault". Each area is randomly generated, so players get a fresh experience every single time. Furthermore, the weather on Kovus-18 is always changing. There are events like pollution tornadoes and even hailstorms. These can either be avoided or used to turn the tide of battle. These kinds of choices create a truly immersive experience. Additionally, weapons, armor, and upgrades are in many different places throughout these zones. There are over 75 weapons, as well as variants that past clones sometimes leave behind. Find them all and pick what suits Freja the best!
