About All-Stars Triple Triad

Developed by Ludovic, All-Stars Triple Triad is a fan-made RPG card game, available for the Windows operating system. It adapts the famous "Triple Triad" card game, which Square-Enix first used in "Final Fantasy VIII." This video game tells the story of the main character, who is warped into a mysterious world. They meet a woman named Jiya, who teaches them how to use "Dimensional Cards." While the story is in Portuguese, it's easily translated via Google, or it can be ignored if you just want to focus on the gameplay. The menus are easily navigable using basic RPG Maker controls (Z = OK, X = cancel, Q = menu), and shouldn't provide much of a barrier to entry.

All-Stars Triple Triad Features

Triple Triad's greatest strength is how easy it is to learn. All-Stars uses the rules of the original: both the player and opponent place cards down on a 3x3 grid. Each card has four numbers in cardinal directions. Any card placed in those cardinal directions must be able to beat the opposing number. For instance, let's say your opponent puts down a card with "3" in the West position, and you have a card with a "4" in the East position. If you place your card directly next to your opponent's card, with the numbers facing each other, you'll beat your opponent's card. Any cards you defeat will flip to your side. Likewise, any cards your opponent defeats will flip to their side. Although it might sound complicated in text form, it's rather easy to pick up in action.

The standout feature in this game is how all the cards in All-Stars come from various comics, books, and TV shows. For instance, the beginner Booster Blue pack contains Goku from Dragon Ball Z and Jibanyan from Yokai Watch, among others. There's a truly stunning amount of characters, ranging from well-known ones like Batman and Captain America to the more obscure. You can easily assemble a dream team from your favorite shows and games. All the characters are listed in the menu, where you can see how many you have left to collect. The game's graphics are beautiful, with a tasteful color palette and well-drawn sprites. All the character images are high-quality, and the text is easy to read.

In Conclusion

For players interested in RPGs and card games, All-Stars is an excellent choice. There is a language barrier for non-Portuguese speakers, although it doesn't detract from the enjoyment. Players can still experience the game without issue. It's a fun and polished take on the card RPG formula, with a focus on collecting your favorite characters. Fans of the original Triple Triad will definitely enjoy this video game.
